As the year comes to a close, it's an opportune time to reflect on the incredible journey the Staple Hill and District Branch has been on. It has been a year filled with poignant moments, cherished friendships, and a shared commitment to honouring veterans and supporting the local community.
The cornerstone of branch activities has been the numerous coach trips and social events. From visiting the historic docks of Portsmouth to the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hal, these outings have allowed members and their families to connect, share stories, and create lasting memories.
In addition to the coach trips, there have been a variety of social events throughout the year. These gatherings have provided an opportunity to relax, unwind, and build friendships outside of usual meetings. From the inaugural Poppy Ball to the annual Christmas dinner, the members have had a great time and numbers continue to grow.
Central to the identity as the Royal British Legion, the services of remembrance have held a special place in the local community. This past year, the branch observed the annual Remembrance Day in Fishponds, Mangotsfield and Staple Hill but also organised services to commemorate the anniversaries of the Korea and Iraq wars.
As the branch reflects on another busy year, they extend their deepest gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Ian Campbell, for his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication. Ian's passion and commitment have been instrumental in fostering a sense of unity and purpose within the branch. The membership is forever grateful for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavours.
Outgoing Branch Chairman, Ian Campbell: "This year has been full of inspiration and camaraderie as we've come together to honour our heroes and serve our community.
While doing this, I have always maintained that we should be having fun along the way and that has brought in a new generation of members for our branch and I know with new leadership this will continue.''
A new Chairman will be announced at the January meeting.
Looking ahead, the branch prepares to embrace a new year full of fresh opportunities. The branch will continue its mission of remembrance, service, and support for our serving personnel, veterans and their families.
If you are looking for a New Year's resolution, why not pop along to one of the branches many socials and see what opportunities you can take up as a volunteer or member of the Royal British Legion in your local area.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the members of the Staple Hill and District Branch.
